#Eiréné - Security and defense

Weinberg Capital Partners creates the Eiréné fund dedicated to French SMEs and mid-caps companies in the security and defense sector

02/08/2023

Weinberg Capital Partners announces the creation, with a first closing, of a new fund, Eiréné, which aims to support and accelerate the development of French SMEs and mid-caps companies in the strategic security and defense sector. The fund intends to take majority shareholder positions in the context of leveraged buy-out transactions.

With Eiréné, Weinberg Capital Partners’ aim is to participate in the consolidation and growth of companies in the security/defense sector, to support this industrial sector of excellence which plays a key role for French and European sovereignty and to strengthen its funding.

The Eiréné fund thus participates in the strengthening of technologies and essential industrial know-how with high added value, based on skilled jobs anchored in our territories and contributing positively to the trade balance. It also aims to promote the creation of French and European leaders thank to active external growth strategies.

The companies targeted cover all areas of activity in the sector (land, naval, aeronautics, space, electronics, security, cyber, etc.) and the entire value chain (design and manufacture of components, equipment, systems, service provision, etc.). They also most often have a dual activity, meaning both civil and defense activity.

Eiréné, who in Greek mythology is the daughter of Zeus and Themis and embodies Peace, is in line with the historical approach of Weinberg Capital Partners in terms of ESG; peace being an essential condition for the development of ambitious societal and environmental policies.

This new fund is managed by an experienced team with excellent knowledge of the security/defense industry. The team is led by Lionel Mestre, Partner – Managing Director of the Eiréné expertise, and David Lebain, Senior Director. They are assisted by a strategic committee composed of recognized professional from the sector.

A first closing, with more than 100 million euros in commitments, was made with institutional and private investors.

“The launch of Eiréné aims at strengthening a strategic industry for our country. Supporting and developing SMEs/mid-caps is part of our DNA. We are ideally positioned to support French companies present in strategic and growing sectors.”
Serge Weinberg – Founding Chairman of Weinberg Capital Partners

“The defense and security sector must be consolidated in order to accelerate the development of its SMEs and mid-caps companies. There are many opportunities for primary transactions with companies destined to become leaders in France and Europe. Eiréné aims to support these companies in their growth strategies. For this purpose, the fund will be composed of a mixed team of professionals from both investment as well as security and defense industries.”
Lionel Mestre – Partner, Managing Director of Eiréné expertise
